The Power of Plant-Based Foods To Awaken Your Body’s Natural Ability To Heal.
You’ve probably heard that eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains contributes to your health and well-being. However, why is it that about only 10% consistently eat the recommended servings of plant based foods each day?
The problem is that most people don’t realize the full healing power vegetables offer. In fact, the risk of countless health issues can be significantly reduced – and many alternative health experts believe they can be reversed in some cases.
This may include problems, such as high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, memory function, and countless more nagging health problems (including the common cold).
Simply put, good nutrition helps give your body what it needs to awaken your natural ability to heal and energize your life at the same time.
So, if you suffer from health problems (or want to avoid future ones), then you can choose to increase your plant-based vegetable intake.
Moreover, whenever possible, your best choices are organically grown vegetables without pesticides.
Many commercially grown vegetables you find in the supermarket are grown with chemicals, synthetic fertilizers and the use of pesticides at varying degrees. This causes a depletion of nutrients in the soil and affects the amount of nutrients you get in the vegetables you consume as a result.
The reason plant-based foods have the ability to heal is because they’re power-packed with nutrients other foods lack.
Many are surprised to learn that some vegetables are high in calcium, protein and, at the same time, potentially help you reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer.
One easy and simple way to recognize the most potent ones are by their dark green color. Take, for example, broccoli, Bok Choy, cabbage, collards, okra, kale, mustard greens, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and turnip greens.
Or take Agar Seaweeds, loaded with twice the amount of calcium than any other vegetable or dark leafy greens.
Other great sources of calcium, include beans, grains and soy products (such as soymilk with added calcium and tofu).
All those alternatives to dairy products not only have the calcium you need, but also magnesium to help you build strong bones. What’s more, these plant-based foods have cancer-fighting antioxidants and fiber for digestive health. These are unique substances found almost exclusively in plant foods.
So how many vegetables do you have to eat to get the same amount of calcium in one cup of milk (300mg)?
All it takes is less than a cup of cooked collards, or bok choy, or broccoli, or turnip greens to equal the absorbable amount of calcium in one cup of milk.
Other milk alternatives with fortified calcium like soymilk, rice milk or nut milk have similar amounts of calcium. Similarly, you will also find calcium added to enrich orange and fruit juices.
For tofu (made from soybeans) all it takes is 4 oz. (1/2-cup) to match the calcium in one cup of milk.
In other words, you have many choices to satisfy the recommended daily calcium need of 1000-1200 mg (for most adults) with a huge variety of non-dairy nutrient-rich foods.
Moreover, plant-based food sources can provide a lot more than calcium and protein. You get antioxidants and vital minerals and vitamins only found in plant foods with natural healing and health promoting properties. Additionally, you put more nutrient-rich foods with less unhealthy fats into your body containing less nutrient poor calories.
What’s more, if you choose to eat some of these vegetables raw, you get enzymes. These make it even easier to digest your food and make your inner environment flourish to create optimum health.
So, the bottom line is by increasing your intake of vegetables, you give your body the nutrients it needs to do wonders for your health.
Of course, there is the problem of taste. To help bring out the flavor of vegetables, beans, and nutrient-packed grains, Natural Healing Recipes has been created.
